Dave feels uncomfortable back with the kids at the same foster home. He gets taken to another foster home for 4 days. It was Harold and Alice Turnbough. Then he gets taken to Joanne Nulls. He didn't like the way she treated him since he was a teenager now. Her husband Michael didn't want him, but they finally agreed. Dave doesn't feel at home there. At school, Dave gets beaten up. Joanne and Michael were getting a divorce, so Dave was put in the home of Vera and Jody Jones, and African American home. He shares a bedroom with the Jones’s son, but 7 other foster kids sleep in the garage. When Dave goes to school, he makes friends with a boy named Carlos, however, Dave soon has to go back with Alice and Harold Turnbough.
