Thirty minutes of writing... go!
Disney story lines seem to be formulaic:
innocent young person/animal + loss (usually a mother) + something to overcome (evil queen, ghastly appearance, a fish tail where legs should be) + magic/"miracle"+ interesting, quirky sidekick/friend = Disney Movie's happy ever after. For today's journal, you're going to come up with your own Disney-esque story. Take ten minutes to brainstorm: 1. Innocent person/animal: 2. Loss: 3... Something to overcome: 4.. Magic/"miracle": 5. Interesting, quirky sidekick/friend: = Happy ever after: and 30 minutes to write!! Go! This photo is called "The Best Intentions".
What is going on? In 30 minutes (not 17, not 29, not 11, but THIRTY WHOLE MINUTES), write a story.... go! Aliens visit the earth. They tell you they're from outside of your local group... many millions of light years away. Their English is perfect and they seem to be friendly enough. You are the only person that knows they exist and they're unsure if they're going to make their presence known to anyone else.
For thirty minutes, write about your encounter with this species. What do you tell them about Earth? Do you try to convince them to show themselves to others? Why or why not? Would you like them to take you back to their home planet? Why or why not? Go! For today's journal, you will draw a pyramid (really, a triangle is acceptable)... you will divide it into five pieces by drawing four horizontal lines. In each section you will list one of the five factions from Divergent: Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity, and Candor. Each section should be sized relative to how much of it you consider yourself to be...
So, the biggest section should be the part of you that you feel is the strongest, in terms of personality and value while the smallest section of the pyramid is the smallest part of you. When you're done labeling the sections in big, bold letters, write at least five adjectives about yourself that qualify you to fit in that section. That should take you no longer than ten minutes. For the other twenty minutes, please write a story from your own history that exemplifies how you fit into the faction that you best fit into! A picture is worth a thousand words…
or so they say. Choose one of the photos below and write a story relating to the image. Thirty minutes of writing. GO! You have to sacrifice two of your senses. Which two will you give up? Write a story about life without those two senses... 30 minutes of writing starts NOW!
You're from the future, when life is much like it is in Divergent or Hunger Games... you come back to modern day (2014) and you know that THIS is the moment when things can be changed to prevent the future you know. What do you do? How do you get people to listen? Tell the story-30 minutes of writing!
School is a place where we come to further our education. In a typical American classroom, a teacher will lead the class's learning activities and the students will follow his/her lead. What if school worked a little differently, though?!
Imagine that you come to school to find that you are in charge of leading the classroom for the day. The rules are simple: You will still have the same school day length and we must be learning about something. What are you going to teach us? Write for 30 minutes about your day as the teacher! |
