Week 3 Day 3 (Wednesday)
1) What did you read about today? Be specific
1) They are leaving Daly City and moving to Salt Lake City. As they crossed the Golden Gate Bridge Richard thought of all the memories and his last time of seeing it. After hours of traveling Richard and the other kids got out to stretch their legs but his mom screamed for David to come back in, but he didn't really mind. He kept himself occupied during the ride about daydreaming about his life and other things that pertained to him. His mom had a picture taken at Dinosaur Land and he kept on to that just to remind Richard of who his mother was. She would leave Richard out of the trip and so he darted along a different path. He found a bat cave and decided to go in it. He went deeper and deeper. When he exited he saw his mother and she started screaming and asked what the hell he was doing. She took the boys along for another tour leaving Richard. Richard remembered one pleasant story of his mother in her childhood. He saw a huge angle stone and he went to have a closer look too it. He felt a special inspiration, a motivation from the stone angel that made him stronger and made him believe he could do it. As he left he would say thank you too it. His new bedroom reeked of urine and mold. Richard thought deeper into what he was going to do. He would wake up in the middle of the night thinking there was something outside but there was nothing at all, it was that he wasn't used to his new house yet. He would sit at the rocking chair at night and ask god to take his life from him because he was yet to scared to do it by himself. One night he was really sick of it all so he took the gun out and placed it under his bed attempting to kill himself once again believing that god had gave up on him. He went out to the yard and tried not to think about it as hard. He pressed the trigger to find out that the safety guard had been removed. As he went for another press his mother came in and said someone is here to meet you. It was Darlene Nicholos, their neighbor, a really nice and caring women. She introduced herself and they talked for at least an hour. Richard felt a lot of comfort being around her. She was really gentle and a really nice person. Richard had forgotten about the previous moment. Darlene had to go, but she invited him over to her house to meet her husband, John, tomorrow. He meet John and all the other kids the next day. He was a tall man and Richard thought he would have a dark and deep voice however he was as gentle as his wife. All the kids were nice and Richard loved how they lived together as a family. Richard wondered how Darlene knew nothing about Richard's life. He felt as if this was now god's sign to him, and that suicide wasn't all that easy to do. He started spending more and more time over at their house. The mom found out that going over to the Nicholos's family's house made him happy and so she called Darlene and told her that he was a really misbehaving child. Darlene asked Richard if his mother drinked, but she didn't want to get too much into their business.
2) How do you feel about what you read today?
2) I was happy when Richard looked up to the angel stone and I was happy that he found a new neighbor who cared a lot about him. However, I was sad because Richard had to leave his old house and all the precious memories he had with his few friends back in California.
3) Think about your favorite character. What happened to him/her today?
3) He had to leave all his belongings and start a new life in a new house, he found something that motivated him and made him feel proud, and he meet a new family that was really nice to him.
4) How would you feel if the same thing that happened to him/her, happened to you?
4) If I suddenly had to leave all my belongings and move to a new place I don't even know then I would be really sad. I wouldn't want to just leave all I had and move on to something I am not familiar to at all. Finding a new family to spend time with would make me feel great, and a new motivation will encourage me to make my life better. A new motivation would make me proud and it will resemble my life and on who I truly am.
5) What questions do you have about what you read today?
5) I want to know that if the new family he has been spending time with will find out about Richard being abused.
6) What do you predict will happen next in this story?
6) I think Richard will start telling things about himself and his abuse to Darlene and the family.
