Andes Mountains are the world's largest continental mountain range. They are also one of the highest mountain ranges on Earth. The Andes Mountains are located in South America.. It is a great natural feature of our Earth! The Andes Mountains have high plateu; which are surmonted by even higher peaks that form an unbroken rampart over a distance of approximately 5,500 miles from the southern tip of South America to the continent’s northernmost coast on the Caribbean. The Andes Mountains are separated into 3 natural regions; which are the southern, northern, and central. In the central region of this biome it is more mild.. It is mild because it is not near the equator or the cold Antarctica. The largest herb in the world grows here. Most plants that grow in the Andes Mountains are small in size to conserve energy. Most plant's leaves are strong and stiff so it can protect them from frost and cold weather. (If they are high in the mountain). The Andes Mountain supply many homes.. Birds include Flamingo, Andean Flicker, the Condor, and the Hillstar Hummingbird. There are also land animals such as Mountain Lions, The Red Perll, and Llams. Humans are hurting the Andes Mountains by cutting down the trees. Trees shelter many Andrean animals. Humans also mine for gold, silver, and etc and that erodes the soil and hurts the plants that are there in the Andes Mountains. http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/andes.htm
